In episode 2 of HAVE YOU HEARD FROM JOHANNESBURG, Youth in South Africa and all over the world join the growing movement against apartheid, and the brutal supression of a youth uprising in Soweto, which galvanizes public support for sanctions against South Africa.
This panel included Godfrey Sithole, who was exiled from South Africa
along with Thabo Mbeki and 27 other African National Congress leaders
in 1962; and Glenys Lobban, who was a student activist in the
…anti-apartheid struggle in Johannesburg and left South Africa in 1972.
They will be in conversation with Hannah Schwartzchild and Timothy
Lobban Colman, of Philadelphia Jews for a Just Peace. Hannah was active
in the anti-Apartheid movement in Berkeley in the 1980s; Timothy is a
second generation South African in the US, is involved in diverse social
justice movements, and is also Glenys’s son. Below are some excerpts
from the evening.
